Art duo Mark Portillo and Jimmy Repeat, collectively known as Mr. GIF, was two of the cutting-edge GIF designers called out by avant-garde stylist Nicola Formichetti when he took over Dazed & Confused‘s December issue “#Fantasia” last month.
Having elevated GIF into an art form, Portillo and Repeat have been commissioned by high profile personalities, publications, and media programs the likes of designer Mark Ecko, hip hop mogul Rick Ross, celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, Forbes, Vice magazine, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
“How did you start making GIFs?” asked Dazed & Confused. “We were masturbating too much and needed a new hobby,” the duo replied. “2008 was a fucked up year.”
Here’s Portillo and Repeat’s reinterpretation of Formichetti’s Nicopanda when they were asked to re-imagine the stylist’s panda motif.
And what do they do when they aren’t making GIFs? “Party and bullshit, party and bullshit.”
Apparently, Barack Obama has joined their party, too – Gangnam style.
